In this sūrah, there is a clear contrast between the truth practiced by those who are the righteous, and falsehood which is practiced by the mushrikūn (those who associate partners with Allāh subhanahu wa ta’ala). This is explained through the examples of Sayyidunā Ibrāhīm alayhis salaam, Sayyidunā Mūsā alayhis salaam and Sayyidunā Īsā alayhis salaam and the trials and tribulations they endured in the mission of spreading the truth. The battle between truth and falsehood will be full of tests and trials, but the steadfastness and commitment of the prophets described in this sūrah reveal how the truth will always prevail.

Those who commit shirk and kufr will be amongst the losers. Although this worldly life is full of temptations, the true believers will not fall for this and instead, they will earn their place in Paradise, unimaginable to man. We will explore the life of Sayyidunā Mūsā alayhis salaam and Sayyidunā Īsā alayhis salaam in greater depth.

Sūrah Mumtahinah emphasises the hardships, struggles and trials the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam and the Companions radhiyallahu anhum faced due to the oppression the polytheists of Makkah Mukarramah put them through. They were constantly plotting and planning against our beloved Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam and his Companions radhiyallahu anhum, trying their best to turn them back to disbelief.

The Muslims went through so much persecution yet still had full conviction in Allāh subhanahu wa ta’ala and they never became despondent. This teaches us that we should always have patience and faith in Allāh subhanahu wa ta’ala with whatever we are going through in life.

Presented before you is a brief commentary of Sūrah Tahrīm; the sixty-sixth chapter of the holy Qur’ān. Although this sūrah consists of twelve verses only, the commentary is vast. The beauty of tafāsīr is such that numerous wisdom, advice and guidance can be deduced from a single āyah. And this sūrah is no different.

In this sūrah, Allāh subhanahu wa ta’ala addresses incidents that occurred in the life of Rasūlullāh sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Through His infinite mercy, He commands us to save ourselves and our families from the Fire and exhorts us to make sincere repentance. Allāh subhanahu wa ta’ala also mentions the evil women who will be in the Hellfire due to their wickedness, and reminds us of two of the greatest women that have ever lived; Maryam and Āsiyah (may Allāh subhanahu wa ta’ala be pleased with them both).
