Marriage plays an important role in our lives. It is a commemoration of the union of two strangers who will spend the rest of their remaining lives with one another. Marriage ought to transpire comfort and tranquillity whereby the couple share one another’s sorrow and happiness. In order to commemorate the lawfully wedded couple, the Islamic tradition and the practice of the Messenger of Allāh Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is to conduct a marriage feast, Walīmah. Islām teaches us that Nikāh should always be as simple as possible. The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “The most blessed marriage is that in where the least expenditure is made.” (Baihaqi)
