Before you is a commentary of Sūrah Sāffāt from the 37th chapter of the holy Qur’ān. The theme of tawhīd (belief in the oneness of Allāh) is a core theme throughout this sūrah and this is explored through the lives of the prophets and the challenges they faced.

This sūrah highlights the qualities of angels and teaches us the importance of discipline and servitude. To reinforce the central message, Allāh then gives a graphic description of Jannah and Jahannam for people to ponder. We are given an insight into the earlier stages of the prophets’ propagation and how many of them had to go through great difficulties, in the beginning, to get people to understand the basic message of tawhīd. The ultimate message of hope in this sūrah for those who propagate at the grassroots level is that, the chosen servants of Allāh will always prevail.
